Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe spoke on behalf of Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council sessions that began in Geneva Switzerland yesterday.

The Minister extensively explained the development that Sri Lanka has achieved after the end of the war.

He added that as a home-grown solution to the national issue, Sri Lanka has already started implementing the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.

Minister Samarasinghe reiterated that therefore there is no need for a resolution calling for the recommendations of the LLRC to be implemented to be tabled at the Human Rights sessions.

The Tamil Diaspora and the Darusman report allege that a large number of civilians were killed during the final stages of the war.

This is the main reason for countries including the United States to bring a resolution against Sri Lanka.

However, Minister Samarasinghe added that the data presented by these parties is not accurate.

Speaking further, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe added that there is no need for international pressure to find solutions for Sri Lanka since extensive measures have been taken to create national reconciliation.
