According to the Italian Coast guard, a fishing boat has reached the cruise ship stranded in the Indian Ocean with more than 1,000 people on board.
The Costa Allegra is adrift in the dark after a fire in its generator room caused it to lose power.
No one was injured in the fire on board the liner, which is around 200 miles southwest of the Seychelles, near Alphonse Island.
Tug boats will not reach the ship until around 1500 GMT today.
The ship is from the same fleet as the Costa Concordia, which capsized off the Italian coast in January, killing 32.
The ship's owner, Costa Cruises, has stressed that the Allegra is steady and conditions are safe.
