The 19th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council began in Geneva yesterday with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay opening the floor.
However, she did not make any reference to Sri Lanka in her opening address.
Minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Brown speaking on behalf of Britain however, made reference to the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
He alleged that Sri Lanka has failed to implement the recommendations made by the LLRC report.
Meanwhile, the session also focussed on the human rights angle of sports.
The 2012 London Olympic Committee and the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympic Committee expressed their views regarding this topic.
The Human Rights Commission sessions today will begin with a video address from Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon.
Thereafter, the UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay will address the sessions again after which high level discussions will begin.
