The Sigiriya Project Officials of the Central Cultural Fund have discovered that the crypt where the ashes of King Kaashyapa are supposed to be deposited is located on a rock in Hiriwadunna in Habarana.
The Project officials have said that the crypt is situated in the Habarana Ancient Temple.
The Chief Incumbent of the Habarana Ancient Temple Venerable Bogaswaewey Vipassi Thero said that the Central Cultural Fund has informed him to protect the area surrounding the crypt.
Venerable Vipassi Thero said that the Sigiriya Project officials performed religious observance to the guardian Gods of the site before making the relevant disclosure.
However the prelate requested the people for their assistance in protecting the location.
In addition a meritorious observance with preaching of the doctrine was held on behalf of King Kaashyapa yesterday after 1600 years.
