Forty-two shops were completely destroyed in a fire that broke out in the Mannar town this dawn.
Mannar Assistant Disaster Management Officer M. A. H. A. Riyaas told our news team that the fire has now been brought under control.
While the navy and the police jointly controlled the fire, security has been strengthened throughout the area.
The Mannar police said that the reason for the fire has so far not been revealed.
The police said that a line of shops in the vicinity of the Mannar Urban Council had been destroyed by the fire.
