China has once again assured Sri Lanka of its continued assistance to safeguard its national independence and sovereignty in the face of an onslaught from Western courtiers at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie has given this assurance to Sri Lanka's Defense and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa when the two officials met in Beijing.
Expressing appreciation for Sri Lanka's solid support on China's core interests, the Chinese Minister has said that his country hopes to "work together with Sri Lanka to consolidate the friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and improve communication between the armies of the two countries.
Sri Lanka Defense Secretary has said that China-Sri Lanka ties have kept a healthy and smooth development and acknowledged China's support to end Sri Lanka's civil war and to begin the reconstruction and development.
Meanwhile, Special Correspondent in Geneva Shamindra Ferdinando stated that the statement that is to be made by the US against Sri Lanka at the Geneva Human Rights Council Session will be made today or tomorrow.
It was previously reported US Deputy Assistant Secretary of state Maria Otero was to make this statement yesterday.
However, the statement was not made and an error by the US is believed to be the reason.
