Environment organizations point out that there is a threat of the Mahaweli River being destroyed due to illegal sand mining and the dumping of garbage.

National Coordinator of the Centre for Environmental Studies Ravindra Kariyawasam stated that the relevant authorities should pay special attention with this regard immediately.



When our News Team inquired from the Director General of the Mahaweli Authority Gamini Rajakaruna with this regard, he stated that he is prepared to take necessary measures.
