The Jaffna Fisheries Association states that the case filed by regular fishermen in Tamil Nadu against the usage of trawlers and illegal fishing nets is a timely one.

The secretary of the association S Thavaratnam stated that the verdict of this case is important to Sri Lankan fishermen as well.

He added that Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen who use trawlers and illegal fishing nets in the Palk Strait are a hindrance to their fishing activities as well.

The secretary also noted that depending on the decision given by the Indian High Court, measures will be taken to file similar cases against illegal fishing practices in the Jaffna District court as well.
