Several functions were held in Colombo today in view of the International Women’s day which falls today.

The main function was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

Attorney General Eva Wanasundara speaking at the function stated that there is no better day than today to look in to the future of women with an open mind.

Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs Thissa Karaliyedda stated that those involved in women’s abuse should be sentenced to life in prison.

Meanwhile, UNP General Secretary Parliamentarian Thissa Attanayake speaking at UNP’s Women’s Day Celebration stated that it is time to take the initiative to serve women.
