Bus fare amendment required again; MP Anura Kumara tells parliament

UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara brought up a question in parliament yesterday regarding the ownership of the Kerawalapitiya Power-Plant.

A tense situation arose thereafter when the subject minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was answering the question and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe also attempted to present facts.

Meanwhile, Leader of Parliamentary Group of the Democratic National Alliance Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated in parliament yesterday that bus fares should be amended once again.

He stated that due to the recent bus fare hike the general public have had to pay 3550 million rupees.

The MP further added that based on standing order 23.2, bus fares should be reduced depending on diesel prices.

In response, Minister of Private Transportation Services C B Rathnayaka had this to say.

Several clauses of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance were taken up for debate in parliament yesterday while the Private Parliamentarians Proposal will be taken up for debate today.
