Nearly 18,000 kidney patients in North Central Province

Nearly 18,000 kidney patients have been identified in the North Central Province during the last 10 years.

Dr Susil Munasinghe of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital said About 6,000 of them have died of the disease.

Most patients have been reported from Kebethigollewa, Padaviya and Medawachchiya areas in the Anuradhapura district.

Dr Munasinghe said according to scientists and researchers the most likely cause for the high incidence of renal disease is the contamination of drinking water.
