The Election Commissioner issued a communiqué today to prevent multiple registrations in the voters’ list.
Any citizen is entitled to get registered in the electoral register only under one address.
However, it is revealed that there are nearly 2 hundred thousand instances where some persons have attempted to get registered themselves in more than one place through ignorance or intentionally.
The department is in the process of informing those persons in writing to indicate the address of their choice to get registered and the final date of responding to same has been extended up to the 20th of March.
In the event of no response from the persons concerned with regard to multiple registrations, the Election Commissioner is empowered under the registration of elections act to determine the address where the names of such persons should be registered and if response is not received on time the Election Commissioner will act accordingly.
