The Deputy Minister of Highways Nirmala Kothalawala states that the number of motor vehicles which break down on the Southern expressway has increased due to improper maintenance.
The Deputy Minister stated that more than 5 thousand motor vehicles had broken down after the Southern expressway was declared open to the general public.
The Deputy Minister of Highways also pointed out that although the motorists were requested to enter the expressway after checking on the condition of their motor vehicles, certain motorists do not adhere.
The Ministry of Highways did not charge a fee to tow a motor vehicle which broke down on the expressway previously.
However, the Deputy Minister stated that it has now been decided to charge a fee of 2500 with effect from this month to tow vehicles off the Expressway.
