The Palmadulla Magistrate Chandani Neranjala Dias ordered today to send the knife which was used for the Kahawatte double murder and the 82 pieces of cloth which were recovered from the 1st suspect’s residence to the government analyst and the Genetec Institution.

The Magistrate had ordered the Genetec Institution to conduct a DNA test to find out whether there is human blood on the knife which was used for the murder and to reveal information as to whose blood it is.

The Government Analyst has been ordered to find out whether there is human blood on the pieces of cloth which were recovered.

The Crimes Investigation Division recovered this knife and pieces of cloth according to the statements of the chief suspect of this incident Lokugamhewage Darshana alias Raju and produced before the count.

Meanwhile, our judicial correspondent stated that no lawyer represented the suspects when they were produced before the court today.

People who were gathered at the premises had engaged in a protest when the suspects were led out of the court.

However, the magistrate ordered to remand the 03 suspects who were arrested with regard to the Kahawatte double murder until the 19th of March.

Meanwhile, a special media briefing was convened at the Police Headquarters today under the patronage of the Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakoon to explain with regard to the progress of the police investigations related to the Kahawatte double murder.

The Inspector General of Police explaining with regard to the reason for the double murder had this to say…

Our correspondent inquired the Inspector General of Police whether a guarantee could be provided with regard to the steps the police had taken on safeguarding the lives of the people amidst a peaceful situation within the country.

Meanwhile, Godakawela Divisional Councillor K.A. Wasantha alias ‘Ali Baby’ who is a suspect in the murder of a 21 year old married individual of Waligepola in Godakawela and another individual have surrendered to the police today through a lawyer.

The Police Media Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ajith Rohana stated that as at present the suspects are under the custody of the Senior Superintendent of Police Office in Ratnapura.

The Police Media Spokesperson further stated that the suspects are scheduled to be produced before the court tomorrow.
