Venerable Walava-hangunu- wawe Dhammaratana thero who was in charge of the Historic Mihintale Rajamaha Buddhist Temple has been appointed as its Chief Incumbent until the examination of child abuse allegations against the Chief Incumbent of the Historic Mihintale Rajamaha Buddhist Temple Venerable Namalwawe Sri Rathanasara thero is completed.

It is reported that this decision was taken by the Malwattu Maha Vihariya Karaka Maha Sanga Council which convened recently under the patronage of the Chief Prelate of the Malwattu Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala thero.

The Chief Prelate of the Malwattu Chapter has sent a letter to the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs informing this appointment.

In his letter, the Chief Prelate of the Malwattu Chapter had pointed out that this decision was taken after the Karaka Maha Sanga Council conducted an inquiry by calling Namalwawe Sri Rathanasara thero and Walavahangunuwawe Dhammaratana thero before the council.

Accordingly, the Karaka Maga Sanga Council has vested power upon Venerable Walava-hangunu-wawe Dhammaratana thero to conduct religious activities such as Buddha pooja, perahara, poson festivals while fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the position of Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Rajamaha Buddhist Temple.

Meanwhile Namalwawe Sri Rathanasara thero who is accused of child abuse carried out a continues strike today at the Mihinthale park.

Namalwawe Sri Rathanasara thero stated that the he had engaged in the strike demanding the chief incumbent of the Malwathu chapter to make him the chief incumbent of the mihinthale temple.
