The Colombo Chief Magistrate Sunil Rajapakse decided today to acquit the Leader of the Democratic National Alliance Sarath Fonseka from the HiCorp case.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate gave this order in response to a basic objection made by Attorney-at-Law Saliya Peiris, the lawyer who represented Sarath Fonseka.

The Attorney General had filed charges at the Colombo High Court in relation to the HiCorp case which were similar in nature to the charges filed by the 02nd court martial against Sarath Fonseka.

The Chief Magistrate had stated that the defendant is acquitted as two cases with similar charges cannot proceed.

However, the case will proceed against the other defendant of the HiCorp case the Son-In-law of Sarath Fonseka, Dhanuna Thilakaratne.
