The Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and leaders of the United National Party have organised a series of meetings in the Jaffna district today.

It is reported that they are scheduled to meet party activists, lecturers and students of the University of Jaffna and civil activists in Jaffna.

Our News Team inquired the Deputy General Secretary of the United National Party Parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena with this regard.

Meanwhile, a group of representatives of the United National Party including the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe met a group of representatives including Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian E. Saravanabhvan in Jaffna yesterday.

The Deputy General Secretary of the United National Party Parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena also expressed views with this regard.

During this discussion, the representatives of the Tamil National Alliance had expressed their displeasure with regard to the behaviour of certain leaders of the United National Party.

This was notified to the Opposition Leader with regard to the statement made by the Deputy Leader of the United National Party Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa on organising a May Day rally in collaboration with the Tamil National Alliance.

The representatives of the Tamil National Alliance had pointed out that it is sad to see leaders within the United National Party which comprises of representatives of all races who act in a manner which disturbs the peace between the North and South.

In response, the representatives of the United National Party had pointed out that regardless of the views and opinions held by certain individuals, the stance of the party for one Sri Lankan nation has not changed.
