Ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo to resume soon

Indian media reported that measures will be taken to recommence the ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo immediately.

Expressing views to ‘The Hindu’ the Chairman of the Chidambaranar Port Trust in India A. Subbiah stated that the ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo is expected to resume either by March end or in the first week of April.

Speaking further the Chairman of the Chidambaranar Port Trust in India stated that efforts are being made by the port agency, vessel operators and other stakeholders to resume the ferry operations between the two countries.

The Chairman of the Chidambaranar Port Trust in India stated that he hopes that the ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo would resume prior to the 14th of April.

The international ferry service between India and Sri Lanka commenced in June, 2011 under the patronage of the Indian Union Minister of Shipping, G.K. Vasan.

The Scotia Prince vessel which traveled twice a week between Tuticorin and Colombo stopped its voyage abruptly due to technical and operational reasons.

12 thousand 240 passengers had boarded the Scotia Prince vessel on journey until its last voyage on the 18th of November 2011.

Expressing views to ‘The Hindu’ the Chairman of the Chidambaranar Port Trust in India A. Subbiah further stated that measures will be taken to provide more facilities for the passengers while recommencing the ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo.
