Construction using backhoes in the Maha Mewna Gardens

UNP Anuradhapura District Parliamentarian P. Harrison alleges that construction work using backhoes are being carried out in the Maha Mewna Gardens in close proximity to the Sri Maha Bodiya.

Parliamentarian P. Harrison states that using backhoes in areas of archaeological importance is banned.

He added that although he had inquired about this from the relevant officials they had not given him a proper response.

We spoke to Minister of National Heritage Jagath Balasuriya who stated that no work is being carried out in any historic site without the prior permission of the Department of Archaeology.
