Several disputes among politicians from the same party were reported yesterday.
Three of these disputes were among UPFA members while one involved UNP politicians.
UPFA MP P Digambaram states that Provincial councillor Sendil Thondaman and his supporters had attacked him with eggs in the Bandarawela town.
He added that he was having his meals at a hotel in Bandarawela on his way to distribute books to children in Badulla when the incident took place.
Provincial councillor Sendil Thondaman is a relation of Minister Arumugam Thondaman.
Although we attempted to contact the councillor several times our attempts were futile.
Meanwhile, Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Saba chairman Ranasingha Dissanayaka speaking to our news team stated that a group including the Central provincial council chairman Saliya Dissanayaka had attacked him.
The chairman was injured during the attack and he was admitted to the Hanguranketha hospital and subsequently transferred to the Peradeniya hospital for further treatment.
A development committee meeting which was held yesterday under the patronage of the Pradeshiya Saba chairman Ranasingha Dissanayaka was disrupted by Central provincial council chairman Saliya Dissanayaka and his group.
We tried to contact Central provincial council chairman Saliya Dissanayaka regarding this incident as well but were unable to get through to him.
Although preparation had been made for the election of office-bearers' of the Galle - Vaduramba - Upper Lelvala Multipurpose Cooperative Society, it was not possible to hold it.
Chairman of the said Cooperative Society Dharmasena Naarangoda told our news team that it was not possible to hold the election because of the intervention of a group including Galle District UPFA MP Nishantha Mutuhettigama.
Meanwhile, a tense situation cropped up at a UNP meeting held in Bandaragama in Kalutara yesterday.
This situation had occurred at a meeting organised under the leadership of Southern Province Provincial Councillor Maitri Gunaratna and former Horana UNP organiser Ravi Jayawardhana.
Southern Province Provincial Councillor Maitri Gunaratna said that when the meeting was being held, a group including UNP MP Ajith P. Perera had caused obstructions.
