An incident where a youth died after falling off the footboard of a train near the Weyangoda Railway Station was reported recently.
The deceased youth identified as 24 year old Sameera Prasad Asurumanna is a resident of Eluwapitiya in Weyangoda.
The unfortunate situation of this incident was that the body of this youth parted into 2 from his hip after falling off the train.
He later died after being hospitalised.
Speaking to our News Team, the Chairman of the Railway Common Employees’ Association Sumathipala Manawadu stated that the reason for this death is the insufficient funds for the Sri Lanka Railways Deparment for the maintenance of trains.
Meanwhile, the Railway Superintendent B.A.P. Ariratne convened a media briefing at the Railway Headquarters today with regard to this incident.
Speaking at this media briefing, the Railway Superintendent stated that the Department of Railways has appointed an investigation team titled ‘Minor Board’ in order to conduct investigations on the death of this deceased youth.
The Railway Superintendent B.A.P. Ariratne further stated that this committee which comprises of 03 deputy heads of the Railways Sub Department will submit a report in relation to the relevant incident within 02 weeks.
