In a press conference held today, the Media Spokesperson of the United National Party Parliamentarian Gayantha Karunathilake stated that the government had obtained monetary loans, paying record high interest rates, only in an attempt to boost their self image and not to develop the country.
UNP Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera stated that a report will be submitted to the party general secretary regarding the disturbance that occurred during the meeting held by those calling themselves the Alternative United National Party in Bandaragama.
He further stated that the meeting was organized with the intention of causing a rift within the UNP and that the report will contain details about those who organized the meeting.
The Director of Administration at Sirikotha Party Headquarters Punchibandara Madagedara filed a case at the Colombo High Court requesting bail granted to the 18 UNPers accused of attacking Sirikotha, be cancelled and the suspects be remanded again.
Upon considering the facts presented before him, Colombo High Court Judge Preethi Padman Surasena issued summons to the defendants to appear before court on the 26th of June.
