The Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Working Committee will meet to discuss the resolution against Sri Lanka that was passed at the Geneva Human Rights Council.

General Secretary of the SLFP Maithreepala Sirisena stated that the meeting will be held on the 26th of this month and discussions will be held on the next steps regarding the resolution.

The General Secretary added that discussion will also be held regarding the various allegations being levelled at Sri Lanka by the international community.

Sources indicate that the government is planning to hold a referendum to ascertain whether the Geneva resolution should be implemented or not.

The United National Party alleges that the government is attempting to politicise the resolution brought against Sri lanka at the UNHRC.

UNP General Secretary, MP Thissa Aththanayaka speaking to our news team stated that if a referendum is held with this regard, the UNP is prepared to support it.

However, Deputy Minister of Ports Rohitha Abegunawardana stated that a statement made by Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe during his visit to the North had affected the decisions taken at the UNHRC.
