The United National Party states that the government is attempting to isolate the country further by using the resolution that was passed at the Un Himan Rights Council in Geneva.
He was referring to a report regarding the government’s attempt to shut down all diplomatic missions in western countries.
General Secretary of the UNP MP Tissa Attanayake stated this while addressing a public meeting in Kundasale yesterday.
However, Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife S M Chandrasena states that the opposition leader made statements to the international community while in the North.
He was referring to the opposition leader’s recent comments made in Pudukudirippu when he visited the home of slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran.
The minister added that the elephant is a sacred animal and the UNP using it as a symbol of their party is a shame for the elephant itself.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the second elephant transit home in Ritigala.
In response the General Secretary stated that the opposition leader’s trip to the North was not a mistake.
He added that the UNP’s trip to the North was solely for propaganda activities pertaining to the Mulativ election.
