General Secretary of the Ceylon Worker’s Congress and Minister of Livestock & Rural Community Development Arumugam Thondaman has handed over his letter of resignation to President Mahind Rajapakse.
However, reports indicate that the President is yet to accept the resignation.
The minister had sent his resignation letter via e-mail.
The minister had decided to resign from his post based on an issue regarding an official at the Livestock Development Board.
Government sources indicate that several high ranking officials of the government met with the minister yesterday.
We spoke to representatives of the Ceylon Worker’s Congress regarding this.
A spokesman for the CWC confirmed that the minister has already left for India.
The spokesman also added that the party had not received any notification that the minister had resigned.
