The protest carried out this morning by the lawyers of the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court was later called off.
These lawyers at the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court refrained from court proceedings in objection of not having arrested the individuals who assaulted the lawyer who represented the defendants of the case where 02 Buddhist monks of the Kotte Rajamaha Buddhist temple were murdered.
They pointed out that the Inspector General of Police or any other responsible official should hold discussions in order to solve this issue.
The lawyers remained in front of the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court by refraining from court proceedings.
As a result, the individuals who arrived at the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court with regard to court proceedings and the detainees who were brought to the court based on various crimes were not able to enter the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court premises.
However, the lawyers suspended their protest in accordance to a promise given by the Senior Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Western Province Anura Senanayake who arrived at the location.
Our correspondent at the location stated that as at present, the proceedings of the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court have recommenced.
