On the 27th of March, The Red Notice exposed an illegal sand mining operation in the Chilaw - Ambakadawila peninsula.

The chairman of the Geological and Mines Bureau, N. K. Wijayananda notified The Red Notice that his department had immediately acted upon receiving instructions from the Minister of Environment, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, and put an end to the illegal sand mining operation.

However, The Red Notice inquired whether the illegal sand mining has been really halted.

According to the residents of the Chilaw - Ambakadawila region, who spoke to The Red Notice, the illegal operations are still ongoing.

The Fisheries Minister of the Wayamba Provincial council, Sanath Nishantha, further confirmed this.
