The JVP is preparing to file a human rights case with regard to the government increasing bus fares in violation of the national policy.
Speaking to our News Team, JVP Political Board Member MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka stated that measures have been taken to file this case in the coming week.
Meanwhile, the All Island Private Bus Companies Federation states that the bus owners who engage in passenger transportation services on the Jaffna-Colombo main route are facing many inconveniences when obtaining route licences for their buses.
The General Secretary of the Federation Anjana Priyanjith stated that a sum of 700 thousand rupees has to be paid to the National Transport Commission to engage in passenger transport services on this route.
Speaking further the General Secretary also stated that they hope to hold a discussion with the Minister of Private Transportation Services C.B. Rathnayaka regarding this matter.
However, when our News Team spoke to the Chairman of the National Transportation Commission Roshan Gunawardena regarding this, he stated that no bus owner has put forward a written complaint regarding this issue.
