The health ministry had decided to prepare a list of vacant lands and abandoned houses in the Colombo District since such places have become breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.

Issuing a communiqué the health ministry stated that this list is been prepared with the help of the environment unit of the police.

The environment unit of the police has informed the health ministry that 160 such places have been identified.

During the past 2 months 8594 dengue patients and 32 deaths have been reported and 50 percent of the dengue cases are reported from the Western Province.

The health ministry is focusing its attention on announcing another dengue eradication week before the school holidays.
