The Sri Lankan Embassy of Kuwait issued a statement saying that the salary of female domestic helper needs to be increased to 75 kuwaiti dinar from the 1st of April.

Further, it was stated that the salary of a female domestic helper with 2 years of experience needs to be increased to 85 kuwaiti dinar.

However, this has been met with resistance by those employing Sri Lankan domestic helpers in Kuwait according to foreign reports.

Foreign reports further show that when the Sri Lankan Minister of Labour Relations toured Kuwait, he was met by these employers and had discussions regarding this.

The Minister has stated that he would inquire into the matter and would move to deny the decision made by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait.

Currently the salary of a Sri Lankan female domestic helper in Kuwait is between 60 and 65 kuwaiti dinar.
