Labour Officer accused of taking bribes remanded

A labour officer from the head office of the labour department has been remanded till the 16th of this month for obtaining a 100,000 rupee bribe.

The labour officer had accepted the bribe for not filing a case regarding overtime payments of a private firm.

The accountant from the firm had lodged a complaint with the Bribery and Corruption Commission.

The suspect was apprehended in the Wattala area by Bribery and Corruption officers and was produced before the additional magistrate of Colombo, Prasanna Alwis.
