Acting Minister of Mass Media and Information and Cabinet Spokesperson Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana speaking at the cabinet media briefing held in Colombo today stated that the government has not bowed down to any IMF conditions and only entered in to an agreement with them.

The minister also spoke about the rise in vehicle taxes and the reasons behind the increase.

According to the minister the steep rise in the number of vehicles in Sri Lanka prompted this decision.

Responding to a question posed by a journalist, the minister said that the statement made by External Affairs Minister Prof. G L Peiris in parliament yesterday is the government’s stance on the Geneva Proposal.
