The program to provide free CFL bulbs to all places of religious worship commenced today under the patronage of Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka.
The program commenced at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya, the Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya and the Maharagama Vajiragnyana Dharmayathanaya.
Speaking during one of the functions Minister Patali stated that 84% of the electricity consumption in Sri Lanka is dependent on fuel.
He added that the Ceylon Electricity Board has to bare a huge cost due to this.
He also stated that the decision to provide free CFL bulbs was taken as a measure to conserve electricity.
