Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah has held official talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Proffesor G. L. Peiris, who is in the Maldives on an official visit.
In the official talks held at Foreign Ministry yesterday afternoon both Foreign Ministers discussed ways of further strengthening the close historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
It further said that noting the exemplarily relations between the two countries, Peiris had assured the continued assistance and cooperation of Sri Lanka to the Maldives.
Samad thanked the Sri Lankan Government for the contribution to the socio-economic advancement of the Maldives, especially through human resource development.
Professor Peries is also expected to call on President Waheed during his visit that will conclude on Sunday.
Maldives is one of the 15 countries voted against the US-sponsored UN resolution against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva last month.
