Much attention has been focussed on crocodile attacks in the Nilwala River recently.

The interest in the issue intensified after the most recent death of an 18 year old girl in Malimbada.

The Malimbada Divisional Council officials, government representatives and residents in the area held a special meeting yesterday to discuss this matter.

The Chairman of the Divisional Council Somasiri Weeraman stated that a decision was taken to appoint a special team of divers for the area.

However, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena attending a function in Matara yesterday expressed his views about the crocodile menace.
