The Ministry of External Affairs took steps to inform the Diplomatic Missions, the United Nations and its Specialized Agencies and other International Organizations based in Colombo of several matters relating to the sequence of events involving Premkumar Gunaratnam and Dimuthu Attygalle.
A statement issued by the Ministry has stated that the government has no involvement in this issue.
While mentioning that the two abductees have been found at the moment, it further stated that Kumar Gunarathnam was deported from the country for violation of immigration regulations. The Ministry pointed out that he has been operating in three different names.
The press release went on to say that the statements made by the two following their abduction were contradictory.
It stated that Sri Lanka has sought the assistance of the Australian High Commission to verify the information provided by Premkumar Gunarathnam .
