The Ceylon Electricity Board states that measures have been taken to shut down power on the coastal belt in case of an emergency.
The trade union action to report sick leave that was initiated by the CEB has been called off.
Committee member of the CEB Joint Trade Unions Alliance Ranjan Jayalal explained further.
Meanwhile, all leave granted to health supply workers has also been cancelled as a precautionary measure to deal with any emergency situation that may occur.
Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayake stated that a circular was issues for all staff at coastal hospitals on leave to report to work immediately.
The Private Bus Owners Association has decided to suspend all bus services plying the Southern, Eastern & Northern coastal belts.
Its chairman Gamunu Wijeratna added that he had instructed to halt bus services along these routes until the situation subsided.
Meanwhile according to General Manager of the Railway Department B A P Ariyaratna, train services along the Southern Coast and on the Western Coast upto Puttlam have also been halted.
