It has been learnt that two women of the same family believed to be residents of the kandar-madam area located on the Jaffna- Palali road have committed suicide.
According to our correspondent one of the women had committed suicide by garrotting her self in a room.
She is believed to be 42 years old. Police state that the other women aged 39 had committed suicide by jumping into a well located in their land upon having discovered the corpse of her elder sister.
Both of these said to be English teachers by profession, while police suspect that a personal dispute between them would have led to the incident.
Meanwhile police state that the shooting which had taken place in the Homagama-Pitipana area this morning had been caused due to a personal land dispute.
According to police, the shooting had taken place at around 1.15 am this morning utilizing a T-56 fire arm.
Several glass windows had been shattered during the shooting, resulting in a 49 year old occupant of the house sustaining injuries due to the collapsing shards.
The individual had been subsequently admitted to the Homagama base hospital.
According to officials at the hospital, the victims' situation has been deemed as non-serious.
According to police investigations in this regard have already commenced.
