The Tamil Nadu Government yesterday denied reports that Indian fishermen were attacked allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy on April 2.

The Indian Fisheries Minister K A Jayapal told the Assembly that on investigation, we found that the reports were not true.

He said that such an event “did not happen” on April 2 and all the 504 fishing boats that ventured into the sea returned on April 3 adding they were not attacked.

Jayapal added that however the Chief Minister has been writing letters to the Centre on the attacks on fishermen including six letters in the last 10 months.
