Contaminated water claims two lives in Thalawakele

02 persons who were admitted to the Lindula Base Hospital after drinking contaminated water have passed away.

The Nuwara Eliya District Medical Officer Chandika Bandara Wickremasooriya stated that speaking to our news team stated that a 46 year old man died after contracting dysentery.

A 3 year old child also suffering from the same disease passed away on the 31st of March.

The Mayor of the Talawakele Lindula Urban Council Asoka Sepala stated that measures were taken to educate the public to use water for drinking only after boiling it thoroughly.



The Mayor also stated that the water board had distributed contaminated water to the residents of this area.

We spoke to Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board Karunasena Hettiarachchi regarding these allegations.

He stated that he has deployed a special team to conduct investigations into this matter.
