President Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed the Finance Ministry officials to relax the legal requirement imposed for import of used vehicles.
A communiqué issued by the President's Media Division says that the President has instructed the officials to extend the period of importing used commercial vehicles from three and half years to four years and the period of importing other used vehicles from one year to two years.
The President had given these instructions when he participated at a discussion with the Motor Vehicle Importers' Union members held at Temple Trees yesterday.
Meanwhile at another discussion held at Temple Trees yesterday President Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed that when preparing the ground for the 2013 Deyata Kirula Development activities, action should be taken not to damage the natural environment and the ancient nature of the area.
Reports say that the President instructed that special projects that provide the benefits of development to the Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Polonnaruwa Districts as well, be selected for the Deyata Kirula Exhibition that will be held next year centred in the Ampara District.
