Four persons were killed after being struck by lightening yesterday including 3 persons from the Matara District.
Police media spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana stated that two women who were plucking tea in Pitabeddara and a farmer who was in his field in Akuressa were struck by lightening last evening.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed in her home in Hiniduma-Galle while her child was also admitted to hospital after being struck by lightening.
The Kotapola Divisional Secretary Senaka Palliyaguru stated that members of 18 families were evacuated from their homes due to a land-slide that occurred in Kotapola-Deniyaya this morning.
No casualties were reported.
The evacuated families were housed in the Selvakanda Vidyalaya and have been provided with all necessities.
The National Building Research Organization states that there is a possibility of land-slides in the mountainous regions.
The Chairman of the NBRO R M S Bandara stated that although severe land-slides may not occur in some areas there is still a possibility if rock-falls.
