A committee appointed by the postal department has deemed that sub-post offices operating under the department, which incur losses should be shut down.
These recommendations were presented by the committee subsequent to it being appointed by the department of posts to probe long term losses.
According to a senior official attached to the postal department recommendations have also been issued to further strengthen the super grade institutions operating under the postal department. However no decision has been reached regarding the implementation of the committees findings.
However it was also noted that the functionality of the postal department was to facilitate the requirements of the public rather than solely focus on profits.
In reference to this sentiment it was also noted that the department of posts was contemplating on further strengthening its sub post office network.
The committee's findings are due to be presented to the subject minister shortly.
