Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi states that there is a possibility of a Tamil Eelam being established in Sri Lanka someday.
The former chief minister had expressed these views in a letter to leaders of his DMK party.
Karunanidhi had added that the people of Tamil Nadu should support this cause.
He previously requested for a vote at the United Nations to establish a separate Tamil Eelam state within Sri Lanka, adding that the Indian government should also endorse this.
Responding to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s sentiments, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday said if DMK Leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's unfulfilled dream was a Tamil Eelam, he should work for it in India because the largest population of Tamils live in the Tamil Nadu state of India and not in Sri Lanka.
The Defence Secretary added that there is no war in Sri Lanka and there exists ethnic harmony and every one lives peacefully.
He also added that Karunanidhi should not attempt to arouse the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
The Defence Secretary went on to brand those who talk about Eelam as terrorists.
