A police constable from the Mannar Police station, who kept possession of some turtle meat confiscated from a suspect, has been remanded till the 4th of next month on orders issued by the Manna Magistrate.

The suspect who was arrested for illegally killing a turtle to obtain its meat was produced before the courts yesterday where he had plead guilty to the charge.

The Manna Magistrate had ordered the meat to be destroyed and upon inspecting the meat prior to being destroyed had discovered that there were 10 kilograms of meat missing.

Following an investigation conducted by the Mannar Police SP, it was found that the constable who had taken the meat to be inspected by a veterinarian had not returned the meat to the courts.
