Minister of Budda Sasana and Religious Affairs Prime Minister D M Jayaratna states that measures have been taken to relocate the mosque which was being constructed within the Rangiri Dambulu sacred site.
Issuing a statement the Prime Minister’s office stated that the premier has instructed officials to relocate the mosque in a different location and provide Muslim devotees with all necessary facilities.
The statement also says this decision was taken after discussions held between the Prime Minister and Senior Minister AHM Fowzie, Governor of the Western Province Alavi Mowlana, Deputy Minister Abdul Carder and ALM Hisbullah in Gampola this morning.
The prime minister also denounced attempts made to create unrest between nationalities at a time when Islamic nations around the world were expressing solidarity to Sri Lanka.
However, the Chief Prelate of the Rangiri Dambulu Viharaya Ven.Inamaluwe Sumangala Thero speaking to our news team stated that no official statement has been sent with regard to decision taken by the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, several political party representatives called a media briefing this evening to express their views regarding this issue.
