The court issued notice for the Chairman and General Manager of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board to appear in court on the 26th of this month.

Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Saman G Kariyawasam considered a petition filed by the Mayor of Lindula alleging that the Water Board distributed and sold polluted water in the Lindula city limits.

The magistrate also issued notice to 4 officers of the water board’s Thalawakele office to appear in court on the same day.

Meanwhile, Nuwara Eliya District Health Services Director Dr. S K Subasinghe stated that the number of dysentery cases being reported from the Lindula-Thalawakele area has decreased.

However, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D P G Kumarasiri stated that the water distributed by the water board had a substantial chlorine concentration.

We also spoke to the Lindula Public Health Inspector Janath Abeygunarathne regarding this and he confirmed that tests carried out on water samples revealed that there were excessive amounts of chlorine.

We directed all these allegations to the Chairman of the Water Board Karunasena Hettiarachchi.
