Deputy Minister Hisbullah says no damage to Dambulla Mosque.

It was decided yesterday to complete the development of the Rangiri Dambullla Sacred Precincts within the next six months.

This decision was taken at the discussion held at the Rangiri Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya last afternoon regarding the other religious places of worship that have been built at the Dambulla sacred site.

Many government officials including the Secretary of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and the Matale District Secretary met the Chief Incumbent of the Asgiri Chapter for this discussion.

Speaking to our news team about the decision taken at the discussion, Matale District Secretary Helen Meegasmulla stated that no decision regarding the disputed mosque was taken at this meeting.

 

However Minister of Buddha Sasana Prime Minister D M Jayaratne had stated recently that since the Mosque within the Sacred Premises was an unauthorised building steps would be taken to relocate it.

Participating at a media briefing held in Kandy yesterday UNP MP M H M Haleem expressed his views with regard to the Prime Minister's statement.

On this occasion the UNP MP said that the Prime Minister and Muslim representatives in the Government expressed various views on the matter.

However participating at the discussion held at the Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya yesterday Deputy Minister of Child Development and Women's Affairs M L Hisbulla stated that certain Muslim politicians were trying to exploit this incident for their political advantage.
