The Commonwealth Local Government Symposium for Commonwealth South Asian countries commenced in Colombo today.
Its theme is promoting inter-governmental relations and sharing of good practices on South Asian local government institutions.
Representatives of South Asian countries such as India and Pakistan joined this conference while the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum Carl Rite too participated at this conference.
Participating at the inaugural ceremony Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Institutions A.M.L. Athaulla stated that Sri Lanka is an example for other countries as a country which efficiently implements the local government mechanism.
Minister A.M.L. Athaulla stated that the local government system plays a vital role in creating a good way of living by supplying basic facilities for the general public.
