17 opposition MPs are to forward a letter requesting for Mohamed Maharoof to be appointed to the post of opposition leader of the Colombo Municipal Council.
Accordingly a majority of the 21 opposition councillors will forward a letter to President Mahinda Rajapakse.
The post of opposition leader became vacant after the resignation of Milinda Moragoda yesterday.
Meanwhile, Chief Organizer of the Opposition of the CMC Mohamed Hussain Mansil is also due to forward a letter to President Mahinda Rajapakse requesting for the position of opposition leader to be handed over to him.
Speaking to our news team Mohamed Mansil stated that as the senior most member of the opposition councillors at the CMC, he has the ability to take up the duties and responsibilities of this post.
